Dear Friend,
The Oxford Dictionary defines “opportunity” as “a time or set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something”. People look for a proper and fortuitous opportunity to embark on anything. They consider it the safe option. We would advise you to look at the pages of history. True success and tremendous achievement have been the handmaidens of those who created their opportunities. These are a special set of people who through their courage, sagacity, foresight and belief in their capabilities went on to create history.
The Indian Space programme is one saga of triumph of hope and self-belief over naysayers. From very humble beginnings, Indian scientists have created opportunities where none existed. There were many obstacles, be it denial of technology, expertise, sanctions, but our indomitable scientists created their opportunities at every step, breaking records and setting new benchmarks. The indigenous missile programme is yet another area where Indian scientists, technologists and engineers have come together to create missiles like Prithvi, Agni etc. to give India a credible deterrence against external aggression.
How can you chart your destiny, and create your opportunities? First of all, you cannot depend on pure luck; you never know if you will be granted a great opportunity or not. So why do you want to be dependent on luck? Instead, you should be dependent on yourself. This is the only sure way you know you will be granted with an opportunity. The great French General and leader Napoleon Bonaparte was once informed by a fortune teller that he did not have a fate line. He drew his sword and carved a line on his palm signifying his fate line. He went on to achieve great military successes and left a deep imprint on history.
Have a clear and definite goal. Once you have an unambiguous goal and are passionate about it, then your focus and dedication helps you reach the goal. The renowned Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho puts across this point beautifully in The Alchemist : “When you desire something from the heart and soul, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it”.
Embrace the power of visualisation. Visualise your success in your mind. The subconscious mind accepts the thoughts that you often repeat. When it accepts them, it changes your mindset accordingly, as well as your habits and actions. This brings you into contact with new people, situations and circumstances. Thus the power of visualisation sets in motion a chain of events that contribute to your success.
Visualisation coupled with planned hard work, distraction-free studies propels you on the path to success. During this journey, you will learn new things, discover your potential, make new connections and create success by playing to your strengths.
