MY FAVOURITE BOOK

There are numerous books which leave an ever lasting impression on us. The significance of books in the lives of humans is like oxygen for the intellect. They shape our minds and hone our skills. They uplift us and make us more productive. My favourite book, ‘Harry Potter’ by J.K. Rowling has had a similar impact on me and millions of other readers across the globe.

The way core moral values have been glorified in this book series is outstanding. Although, one can find numerous books on the theme of philosophy, morals, humanity, fantasy, etc., I believe that this is the most appealing book amongst all.

This book is based on the story of an orphan whose parents were killed by a wicked wizard. His mother saved him by making a shield of love around the infant Harry Potter. The entire story revolves around the protagonist and the evil magician Voldemort. In the quest for making the magical world free from the terror of Voldemort, Harry, along with the good wizards kill the demon in the end. The uniqueness of the story is the fascinating world sketched out by the author which is parallel to our world. The lessons of life taught to the kids in the form of Harry’s life are extremely didactic. The adults too find it very interesting. The nature of Harry is generous and kind. Also, the teachers and friends who constantly helped him and stood by him at all times, inspire the young readers to be first class citizens. The imagination exhibited by the lady author while writing such a heart-throbbing story is unparalleled and makes every reader understand the significance of pious deeds.

One would be awestruck if one looks at the records the book broke. It is considered to be a masterpiece in the genre of fantasy in English Literature. The Harry Potter series contains a total of 8 books which have been translated into more than 200 languages. The book’s success made J.K. Rowling a billionaire. But, it would be unfair to overlook the story of making of this epic fantasy. J.K. Rowling has faced many debacles in her life. She was jobless and pregnant when she got divorced. She got the idea of this book when she missed her train from London to Manchester and the rest, as they say, is history. She delved deep into her emotions and portrayed her life’s miseries and sorrows via her writing. She was rejected by 12 publishers before she got her first book ‘Harry Potter and the philosopher’s stone’ published. It was a huge success in the UK and the US. It was an instant hit and Warner Bros production house purchased the rights of this book and also made a movie series on it. This further increased the overall reach of the book, making it a household name across the globe.

It is true that J.K. Rowling’s universe can be a little silly for some but the relevance of it on humans can never be overstated. The motivation given by Ms. Rowling through the various characters of her book has been applauded by many great people. The book proves that irrespective of the situation, a person always has a choice. It is up to the will of that person which path he or she wants to adopt. We are nothing but a product of our choices and an outcome of our behaviour.
