Mr. Durishetty has completed his degree in Engineering in\nElectronics &amp; Instrumentation from B.I.T.S., Pilani, Rajasthan. This is the\nsuccessive second year when a youth belonging to a southern state of India has\nsecured the top position. Mr. Durishetty was working with Google before being\nselected in Civil Services. He credits the secret of his success to\npersistence, self-belief and hard work. For General Studies and other papers,\nhe consulted Competition Success Review, General Knowledge Today and CSR Year\nBook apart from Forum IAS. According to Mr. Durishetty, Competition Success\nReview helps in providing good material for Civil Services and its compilation\nis good as compared to other standard material. He advises future aspirants to\nwork on their weaknesses. I had no\ndearth of material. I finished the syllabus and revised often.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. How much time do\nyou think one requires for serious preparations for this examination?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>One\nyear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q.&nbsp;Which\njournals have you been reading for the General Studies and other papers?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A.<\/strong> Apart from <em>Competition\nSuccess Review, General Knowledge Today,<\/em> <em>CSR Year Book, CSR special\neditions,<\/em>I prepared from <em>Yojana, Kurukshetra <\/em>and<em>\ncivilsdaily.com<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q.&nbsp;Do you\nremember any remarkable incident in your life that motivated or prompted you to\ngo for a career in the Civil Services?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>My\nfather works in the State government as Asst. Engineer in the Electricity\ndepartment. This prompted me for Civil Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q.&nbsp;Competition\nSuccess Review, the largest selling youth magazine in English for 35 years, has\nbeen extremely helpful because<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>I\nhave carefully read contents of special editions of Competition Success Review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. How did your\nparents, family and friends contribute to your success?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Received\na lot of consistent support and encouragement. Cleared it in 5th attempt. <s>&nbsp;<\/s><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. Had you not been\nselected in the Civil Services Examination, what would have been your reaction?\nWhich other service\/career would you have gone in\/opted for?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Working\nwith Google before Civil Services, would have continued there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. How do you\nvisualise your success?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>To\nidentify problems in the districts and work towards them especially primary\neducation and job creation in rural areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. What were your\nstrong points which enabled you to achieve spectacular success in&nbsp; the Civil Services Examination?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Recognised\nand worked on my mistakes. Persistence has paid off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. What was your\nOptional at the Civil Services Examination?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Anthropology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. How many\nattempts had you made earlier before you got selected?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A.<\/strong>\nFive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. What was your\ncriterion for the selection of the optional subject?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Interest,\navailability of material and how it has been performing over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. How did you\nprepare for your compulsory papers?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Read\nlocal newspapers and read previous years\u2019 answers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. What is your\nimpression about the Interview Board?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Very\ncordial, did not stress me. Asked questions about my DAF\/Profile. The\nstimulating conversation made me feel at ease in the 35 minutes interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. Competition\nSuccess Review has been the largest selling ABC-certified magazine in English\nsince 1981. How do you visualise the role of this magazine in moulding the\ncareers of the youth.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Helps\nin giving good material. Compilation is good as compared to other standard\nmaterials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. What is your\nopinion about General Knowledge Today ?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Scheming\ncompilation is very good. Issue-wise compilation is good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. To prepare for\nthis Civil Services Examination, did you join any Coaching Institute(s)? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>I\nhave taken test series at Forum IAS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. What do you\nthink is a better way of preparation between selective intensive study and wide\nextensive study?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Questions\nare generally within study but covers a lot of things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q.&nbsp;Is this\npattern of the exam appropriate for selection? Would you recommend any other\nimprovement?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Cycle\nshould be condensed. It is too long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. Do you feel that\nthere should be no restriction on the number of attempts&nbsp;?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>There\nshould be a limit. A lot of youth is lost in the preparation and taking\nattempts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. We have been\nawarding CSR Gold Medal to top 50 Rank Holders of CSE who have been our\nreaders. Do you think that our gesture has been a source of inspiration for the\nCivil Services aspirants?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Helps\naspirants in rural background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. We have been\npublishing essays every month under Current Issues and CSR Essay Contests and\nCSR Super Brain Youth Contest by adding eight more pages to encourage our\nreaders not only to write better, but also to know what the top competitors\ncould be writing. Not everyone would want to purchase or go to\nDelhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. Do you think\nthat the UPSC needs to be more transparent in its examination and evaluation ?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>It\nshould come up with parameters on which answers are judged. A broad outline\nregarding this will help in every doubt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. What is your\nadvice to the future aspirants?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Give\nyour best. Work on your weaknesses.
