She made it into the IAS in her\nthird attempt. Her previous selections had been IRS (Customs &amp; Central\nExcise) in 2015 and the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) in 2013. Ms. Chauhan\nis a B.Sc. (Hons.) Physics from the prestigious Hindu College, Delhi\nUniversity. She credits focussed study with selection of relevant material\ncoupled with hard work, patience and keeping the aim always in mind as the\nsecret of her success. She has followed Competition Success Review since 2011,\nright after school.&nbsp; Ms. Chauhan\ncompliments her parents and brothers for motivating and supporting her at every\nstage during her preparation.&nbsp; \u201cHard work\nis the key to success. There is no other alternative. Have a correct direction\nand work hard\u201d, are her words of advice to Civil Services aspirants. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here, we publish an exclusive interview which\nshe gave to Competition Success Review.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CSR : What is the\nsecret of your success in the Civil Services Examination?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ms. Shweta Chauhan\n: <\/strong>A focussed study with selection of relevant\nmaterial. Hard work, patience and keeping aim always in mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. How much time do\nyou think one requires for serious preparations for this examination?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>At\nleast one year is required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q.&nbsp;Which\njournals have you been reading for the General Studies and other papers?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A.<\/strong> Apart from <em>Competition\nSuccess Review, General Knowledge Today<\/em> and <em>CSR Year Book,<\/em>I\nam a regular reader of&nbsp; <em>The Hindu, The\nIndian Express, Yojana <\/em>and<em> Kurukshetra<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q.&nbsp;Do you\nremember any remarkable incident in your life that motivated or prompted you to\ngo for a career in the Civil Services?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Being\na part of National Service Scheme (NSS) in college motivated me for the Civil\nServices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q.&nbsp;Competition\nSuccess Review, the largest selling youth magazine in English for the last 35\nyears, has been extremely helpful because<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>It\nprovides a summarised version of all relevant facts. One can rely on the\nmagazine to revise the General Science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. How did your\nparents, family and friends contribute to your success?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>My\nparents and brothers have motivated and supported me at every stage. Friends\nhave been the part of journey in preparation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. Had you not been\nselected in the Civil Services Examination, what would have been your reaction?\nWhich other service\/career would you have gone in\/opted for?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>I\nwould have pursued M.Sc., in Physics and would have gone for research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. How do you visualise\nyour success?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>I\nvisualise my success as one of the important parts of my life, to be used as a\npoint for future achievements in serving the society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. What were your\nstrong points which enabled you to achieve spectacular success in&nbsp; the Civil Services Examination?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>My\nstrong points have been my hard-working nature and never accepting failure\nattitude. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. What was your\noptional at the Civil Services Examination?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Geography<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. How many\nattempts had you made earlier before you got selected?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A.<\/strong>\nTwo<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. What was your\ncriterion for the selection of the optional subject?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Geography\nis more related to General Studies and it being more close to Science has been\neasier in studying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. How did you\nprepare for your compulsory papers?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Compulsory\npapers GS and Optional need a lot of writing practice and revising from same\nbooks or material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. What is your\nimpression about the Interview Board?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Interview\nBoard provides the atmosphere so that best in the candidate could come out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. Competition\nSuccess Review has been the largest selling ABC-certified magazine in English\nsince 1981. How do you visualise the role of this magazine in moulding the\ncareers of the youth.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong><em>Competition\nSuccess Review<\/em> has helped the youth in guiding and providing\ndirection. Also, providing summary of all relevant things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. How did\nCompetition Success Review help you in your preparation for the interview?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong><em>Competition\nSuccess Review<\/em> provided me with the interview experience of\ntoppers. I not only got motivated but also got idea of interviews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. How do you look\nupon the publication of CSR magazine in Hindi? Do you think that the mindset\nand basic approach of English medium students are fundamentally different from\nthose of the Hindi medium students ?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>The\nexam pattern is same so the mindset cannot be different. Its just that the\nmaterial in Hindi is not available, CSR magazine in Hindi is filling the gap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. What is your\nopinion about Competition Success Review? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong><em>Competition&nbsp; Success&nbsp;\nReview<\/em> magazine is a focussed approach in providing\nthe material for current affairs. It guides the youth. I have been following it\nsince 2011.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. Since when have\nyou been reading Competition Success Review&nbsp;?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>I\nhave been following it since 2011, after school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. Did your father\nand\/or mother also read Competition Success Review when they were of your\nage&nbsp;? If so, who read and when ?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>No.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. What is your\nopinion about General Knowledge Today ?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong><em>General\nKnowledge Today<\/em> provides crisp views about current affairs and\nis helpful for every competitive exam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. To prepare for\nthis Civil Services Examination, did you join any Coaching Institute(s)? If so,\nname them.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Yes,\nI joined Vajiram &amp; Ravi besides Vision IAS for coaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. What do you\nthink is a better way of preparation between selective intensive study and wide\nextensive study?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Better\nway of preparation is selective intensive study as the syllabus is wide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. Have you been\nstudying alone or in a group ? If you were studying in a group, have your other\nfriends also succeeded ? If so, name them.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Vandana\nGoel, Rank 95.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q.&nbsp;Is this\npattern of the exam appropriate for selection? Would you recommend any other\nimprovement?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Pattern\nis appropriate as it covers wide syllabus and check multidimensions of\npersonality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. Do you feel that\nthere should be no restriction on the number of attempts ?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Attempts\nshould be restricted to 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. We have been\nawarding CSR Gold Medal to top Fifty Rank Holders of CSE who have been our\nreaders. Do you think that our gesture has been a source of inspiration for the\nCivil Services aspirants?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>It\nis important to acknowledge the success of candidates. This motivates others,\nCSR action is good in this respect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. We have been\npublishing essays every month under Current Issues and CSR Essay Contests and\nCSR Super Brain Youth Contest by adding eight more pages to encourage our\nreaders not only to write better, but also to know what the top competitors\ncould be writing. Besides, we offer CSR Gold Medal &amp; Trophy to the winners\nof the CSR Super Brain Youth Contest. Is this focus-oriented approach helpful\nfor the IAS aspirants?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>This\nis very much helpful as aspirants get the idea what to write.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q. Were these helpful to you ?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A. <\/strong>Mock\ntests are very important and CSR helps in testing before being tested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Q.
